Four teams will battle it out for a place in Good Friday’s final of the GH Corlett Woods Cup this weekend.
The semi-finals of the annual second division competition has thrown up a couple of intriguing clashes, with the standout tie arguably taking place at the Memorial Playing Fields in Crosby where in-form Marown and Castletown battle it out for supremacy.
Town currently lead the way at the top of JCK Division Two and will therefore start as slight favourites, but Marown’s recent excellent run of form has seen Dave Brew’s men haul themselves up into promotion contention only two points adrift of the southerners.
Town beat Marown 4-1 just before Christmas but, since then, the Crosby side’s form has been superb, with only one defeat coming at the hands of Premier League heavyweight St Mary’s, so this game should be a cracker and may go the distance.
Douglas and District love a good cup run and sealed their place in the semis thanks to a dramatic Ben Hall-inspired victory against Ayre United in the quarters. They will start as underdogs against free-scoring Pulrose United but the latter have been slightly inconsistent of late and any complacency may be punished by their Noble’s Park counterparts.
Away from the cup, there are three games taking place in JCK Division Two. Second-placed Onchan face a stern test of the promotion credentials with a home match against RYCOB, while Union Mills travel to Foxdale and Gymns host fellow strugglers Michael United.
