The Isle of Man FA Under-18s claimed a dramatic last-gasp victory over Cumberland in the County Youth Cup at the Bowl on Saturday evening.
In a stunning finale under the floodlights, the Manx youngsters scored twice in the dying minutes of extra-time, with Jack Camarda sealing a memorable 4-3 win with a 121st minute free-kick.
The island u18s showed superb character and resilience as they came from behind no fewer than three times during the two hours of action despite dominating the game throughout.
The wonderfully-named Sheldon Mossop put the visitors ahead in only the fourth minute but Jay Skelcher-Maxwell restored parity from the penalty spot.
However, Cumberland retook the lead before halftime when Will Field headed home from a corner.
The home side came fighting back after the break though and levelled matters again when Jonny Quirk kept his cool to slot home after being set up by man of the match Sid Batty.
The sides couldn’t be separated in normal time so it was into the additional 30 minutes of extra time and again the visitors retook the lead when Mossop powered home a sublime free kick off the bar and post.
That’s the way it remained until the Manx players turned the game in its head in the most remarkable fashion.
With the clock counting down, Jacob Crook latched onto a ball over the top and fired home in the 118th minute to set up a grandstand finale.
There was more drama to come though as Lewis Qualtrough’s young charges stunned the visitors with almost the last kick of the game.
The Isle of Man won a free kick nearly 30 yards from goal and up stepped Camarda who fired a shot which deceived the keeper and nestled in the far corner to seal the under-18s’ first County Cup victory for seven years.
