Isle of Man FA’s men’s side’s latest Inter-League Cup odyssey continues on Saturday evening when the Liverpool County League visit the Bowl.
The hosts will start as favourites for the second round tie, but manager Paul Jones has had to shuffle his pack a little for the match.
Jack McVey is off-island, while St George’s team-mate Calum Morrissey plus Corinthians’ duo Dan Simpson and Adam Killey are also missing after featuring in the squad for the first-round win over Peterborough and District League.
Coming into the match-day 16 are Corinthians’ centre-back Cameron Lee, Rushen midfielder Josh Thomas, St George’s flyer Sam Caine and the Canada Life Premier League’s top scorer Ciaran McNulty who was off-island for the Peterborough game.
Jones and assistants have elected not to pick a second keeper in the 16 for the weekend with DHSOB’s Sam Holliday the sole stopper in the selection.
Experienced defenders Julian Ringham and Sean Quaye retain their place in the squad after returning to the FA fold for last month’s victory over the PDL.
Vying for a place in the side’s defensive ranks with the Geordies duo will be St Mary’s new player-coach Alex Harrison, Lee and Rushen’s versatile duo Liam Cowin and Ste Riding.
Further forward Peel trio Lee Gale, Marc Kelly and Daniel Bell will compete for a midfield berth with Thomas and skipper Frank Jones.
McNulty, Caine, Mike Williams and the in-form Davies will battle it out for the team’s attacking spots.
The island side have played their visitors from Merseyside on three previous occasions in this competition, winning twice. The last time the pair met in 2011, they contrived to produce one of the FA side’s most memorable games, the islanders coming back from a 0-3 half-time deficit to win 5-3 in a match that finished in the midst of a hail storm.
The forecast looks more promising for the weekend but the home crowd will be hoping the result remains the same.
