Ellan Vannin manager Chris Bass Sr has named his final selection for next month’s ConIFA European Championships in Northern Cyprus.
There’s a couple of changes to the 20-man MIFA representative side’s preliminary squad picked at the start of last month.
Peel midfielder Daniel Bell is still recovering from appendicitis so misses the trip as does Chris Bass Jr who can’t travel because of family commitments.
Coming into the fold are Liam Doyle, Seamus Sharkey, Furo Davies and Ste Whitley, taking the squad’s number to 22.
Doyle has been released by American second-tier side Swope Park Rangers to take part in the eight-team tournament, while defender Seamus Sharkey returns to action after a head injury cut short his spell with Irish outfit Limerick.
St George’s man mountain Davies, one of nine from the Glencrutchery Road side in the selection, will vie with club-mate Ciaran McNulty and Rushen United’s Mike Williams for a place in the side’s attack.
Whitley will also provide cover for the team’s forward positions after a good season with Canada Life Premier League runners-up Corinthians.
The ex-St Mary’s man is one of four from the Ballafletcher club in selection mix, Whitley joining Chris Cannell, Dan Simpson and Sean Doyle in the travelling contingent.
Doyle will be joined by his brother Conor in the squad, the latter making the trip from his current home in Dubai to take part in the competition.
The tournament takes place in the eastern Mediterranean island from June 4-11. The Manx face reigning champions Pandania, Felvidék and Székely Land in the competition’s group stages.
Full squad: Andy Perry (St George’s), Sam Holliday (DHSOB), Sean Quaye (St George’s), Marc Kelly (Peel), Johnny Myers (St George’s), Seamus Sharkey, Chris Cannell (Corinthians), Sam Caine (St George’s), Liam Doyle (Swope Park Rangers), Liam Cowin (Rushen United), Frank Jones (St George’s), Alex Harrison (St Mary’s), Jack McVey (St George’s), Mike Williams (Rushen United), Ciaran McNulty (St George’s), Joey Morling (Corinthians), Sean Doyle (Corinthians), Conor Doyle, Brian Crellin (St Mary’s), Dan Simpson (Corinthians), Ste Whitley (Corinthians), Furo Davies (St George’s).
