Corinthians clinched a maiden Friends Provident International FA Cup on Saturday afternoon after beating Peel 3-2 in a dramatic final at the Bowl.

Peel broke the deadlock in the 25th minute when centre-back Dominic McGreevy headed in at a corner.

The westerners’ lead, however, lasted only four minutes as Dan Simpson latched on to a slack pass in the Peel defence to fire home and level the scores.

Both sides cancelled each other out for large spells of the second half until, with 20 minutes to go, the final burst into life once more.

First Corinthians edged in front from the penalty spot when Dan Simpson was bundled over in the area by Peel keeper Christian Penswick. Connor Gorman blasted home from 12 yards to give his side the advantage.

Another quickfire equaliser soon restored parity to the tie though, Shaun Kelly’s neat turn and finish levelling the match with 15 minutes left on referee James Turpin’s watch.

Both sides went in search of a winner, but as the match entered stoppage time extra time looked a distinct possibility.

Similar to last week’s last-gasp semi-final win over St George’s though, Corinthians had once last throw of the dice.

Gorman launched a free-kick into the box from deep, Penswick got caught under the ball as it emerged through a crowded box and it sailed into the back of the net to spark jubilant scenes from the Ballafletcher outfit.
