Douglas High School Old Boys lifted its first Ascot Hotel Junior Cup title since 1990 at a sweltering Bowl on Sunday afternoon.
Liam Buckley’s side has dominated Canada Life Combination One in recent years, but a 2-0 win over St George’s ensured the club’s first cup crown in 28 years.
A goal in each half from Mikey Booth and Robbie Ward wrapped up the trophy in a match that was over-shadowed by a serious injury suffered by Old Boys’ striker Danny Corrin.
The game was barely a minute old when Corrin raced through to try and get on the end of a through ball into the St George’s box.
Out swooped Geordies’ keeper Dave Cherry to collect the ball, the pair colliding. It was evident straight away that Corrin had suffered a serious leg injury and an ambulance was called to take him to hospital. After a delay of 35 minutes, while Corrin was treated and taken away, the game resumed.
