The Isle of Man FA men’s side suffered a second successive defeat at this week’s Umbro Quadrangular tournament in Glasgow on Thursday night.

After losing 3-2 to the Republic of Ireland’s amateurs on Wednesday afternoon Paul Jones’s men lost 4-0 at the hands of Northern Ireland under the floodlights of Benburb Football Club’s New Tinto Park.

The island side started their latest encounter well and skipper Frank Jones, who was picking up his 50th cap, hit the post with a shot early on.

However, two quick-fire goals from Richard Thompson and Adam Gray put the Northern Irish two up at the break, before Dylan Wilson and Mark Kelly struck further goals in the second half to kill off the tie.

Lee Gale was denied a last-minute consolation when his penalty was saved.

Peel club-mate Marc Kelly also hobbled off with a torn hamstring on what was a tough night for the islanders.

Jones’s Men round off their Umbro campaign on Saturday afternoon (2.30pm kick-off) with a game against Scotland at Pollok FC’s Newlandsfield Park. The Scots drew their opening game 2-2 with the Northern Ireland, before a late winner gave them a 1-0 win over the Republic of Ireland on Thursday night.
