The Isle of Man FA’s under-18 side returns to action this weekend in the second round of the FA County Youth Cup.
The junior Men claimed a thrilling 4-3 victory over Cumberland at the Bowl in the opening round to claim their first win in the competition for seven years.
The Isle of Man trailed no fewer than three times during the match but goals from Jay Skelcher-Maxwell, Jonny Quirk and Jacob Crook ensured the scores were level heading into the 118th minute of the contest under the floodlights.
With penalties looming, Jack Camarda stepped up to score a late free-kick to snatch a sensational win and book their place in the next round.
The Isle of Man will now play Lancashire at home in the second round this weekend, the side which knocked them out of the competition in the first round last year.
Speaking ahead of Saturday afternoon’s clash, island u18s manager Lewis Qualtrough commented: ‘We are really looking forward to Saturday’s match. The players have been training hard since the last round to look to build on their dramatic win against Cumberland.
‘Having narrowly lost with last season’s u18s squad away to Lancashire last year, I know that Saturday will be a really tough game, but one which our lads are well up for and eagerly awaiting.
‘I am glad we have been drawn at home again as it gives friends and family another chance to come down and support . I want the crowd to really get behind this lot of players and push them on in this game.
‘Confidence is high heading in and I know our lot will give everything they have come Saturday. It would be fantastic to get a win and then look to further progress in the competition.’
There is only one change from the island squad which narrowly beat Cumberland in the previous round, with St George’s youngster Tom Chatel replacing Marown’s Lewis Brew in the 16-man squad.
The match kicks off at the Bowl at 1.30pm on Saturday afternoon so get down and show your support.
Isle of Man squad: James Rice, Lewis Bridson, Dom Parish, Andy Birkitt, Carlo Craig, Jack Camarda, Matty Wilkinson, Sid Batty, Jonny Quirk, Jay Skelcher-Maxwell, Joel Ibanez, Luca Simmons, Jacob Crook, Dylan Pickles, Tom Chatel, Nathan Teare
