The Isle of Man FA’s senior men’s side will continue its preparations for June’s Inter-Island games with a friendly against Championship outfit Brenford’s ’B’ side next month.

The game on Wednesday, April 24 at the Bowl, follows January’s match against League of Ireland side Derry City which the island side lost 0-2.

Brentford B do not participate in any formal league system but instead structure a fixture list that pits their young players against the reserve and under-19 teams of some of Europe’s top sides.

This season alone they have played a number of fixtures in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, most notably against the U19/U21 teams of Bayern Munich, SC Freiburg, RB Salzburg and Grasshopper.

Wales and AFC Bournemouth centre back Chris Mepham is a product of the Brentford B system.

Brentford coach Lars Friis says that the team are already looking forward to visiting the island: ’The B team is interested in playing the most competitive games we can find, against sides from across Europe, but also give the boys experiences that will help them develop as young men. I think this fixture falls perfectly into both categories.’

FA chief executive Frank Stennett said: ’This is a really prestigious game for our senior men and we are delighted to welcome Brentford B to the Isle of Man.

’The game will give island manager Paul Jones and his coaching staff an excellent and demanding test against a very strong team from west London.

’I am sure all the players representing the Island would welcome a good supportive crowd at the Bowl as we continue the build up to the Island Games in Ynys Mon in June.’

’I would also take this opportunity to sincerely thank our sponsor Back Office Services for its continued support of the team. Its kind support is invaluable as we look to progress our future plans both on and off the island.’
