Braddan boosted their JCK Division Two title hopes on Wednesday evening as they cruised to an impressive 6-2 victory over fellow contenders for the silverware Douglas Royal at Victoria Road.
Royal still sit top of the pile on 57 points with two games left to play, but have played six more than the Swans who have accrued 41 points so far.
The pair, however, have to play each other again in a rearranged fixture at Ballafletcher.
The visitors, although missing some key playing personnel, took only a minute to open the scoring.
Andrew Lancaster’s huge throw-in was met with by the outstretched leg of Sean Trayler who poked home.
Braddan equalised six minutes later after Conor Dempsey’s corner was half-cleared. Chris Craine struck a shot through a cluster of players and Lancaster, who was standing on the goal-line, couldn’t prevent it going into the net.
Royal restored their lead following a Trayler corner, when James Halliday’s far-post header was parried as far as Kyle Jones. The latter struck home a low shot to reclaim the lead for Royal.
The Laundrymen levelled matters before half-time following another huge throw-in, which Mark O’Neill flicked home from close range to make it 2-2.
Two goals within a minute in the early stages of the second half from Silver Boot contender Andy Glover firmly put Braddan in control.
The Swans got their noses in front for the first time after a huge throw-in that was only half-cleared. Glover pounced to fire home a low shot in the 49th minute.
A minute later, Glover collected a Dempsey throw-in, weaved his way through the visiting defence to drill home and make it 4-2.
Royal, playing a high defensive line, were caught out in the 76th minute when Michael Hutton beat the offside trap, raced into a near empty half, pushed a through-ball to Glover who slid home his hat-trick.
Braddan completed the scoring on 84 minutes when Glover’s effort was pushed onto the crossbar, Stuart Pacey was at hand to nod home the rebound.
Elsewhere, Foxdale boosted their top-four hopes with a 4-3 win over fellow Paul Henry Gold Cup contenders Onchan at Billygoat Park.
On target for Dale were strikers Aaron Costain and Jay Chatwood plus Scott Kermeen and Matthew Cain.
Pulrose kept their slim Gold Cup hopes alive with a 4-2 win over Marown thanks to goals from Barry English, Darren Flanagan, James Maginn and Dale Walker.
Lewis Brew and Stuart Morris grabbed a goal in each half for the Crosby side.
Gymns won the second tier’s other match 3-0 against Douglas and District.
In the Canada Life Premier League, Peel finished fifth after they drew 2-2 with DHSOB at Blackberry Lane.
Gary Quirk put the hosts ahead before Ryan Holdaway equalised following good work between him and Tom Wood on the left.
Peel then took the lead when Matthew Woods headed in Marc Kelly’s free-kick in the 75th minute, but there was to be late drama as Craig Murphy was adjudged to have been fouled in the box with three minutes to play. The striker sent Owen Dawson the wrong way with his penalty to make the final score 2-2.
Corinthians finished their best ever top-flight campaign with a 4-1 win over relegated Union Mills.
