Douglas & District’s continued their impressive season in JCK Combination Two on Wednesday evening, defeating Foxdale 4-1 at Noble’s Park.
The Miners played down the slope in the first half, opened the scoring on 43 minutes when Callan Wade
placed his shot into the bottom corner to give the visitors a first-half lead.
D & D levelled matters after the break when Owen Stewart dispatched Brian Tung’s pass across the penalty area.
Five minutes later the hosts took the lead for the first time, the prolific Mark Quirk expertly placing his strike just inside the far post.
On 72 minutes, Konrad Kumor made it 3-1 before the hosts wrapped up the win with a fourth in the 80th minute when Quirk scored his second direct from a corner-kick that was deflected home.
It has been a memorable season for D&D’s second string. In Arron Delaney’s first season in charge, the Noble’s Park side has recorded the highest league position of any of the club’s senior squads (second), the most points accumulated over a season, the best winning streak (eight) and the longest unbeaten run (10). Quirk has also scored the most goals for the club in a combination campaign with one league match to spare.
Union Mills and Ramsey, who D and D face in their last league game of the campaign next Wednesday, could yet pip the Noble’s Park outfit to second spot.
The Millers triumphed 6-0 at Ayre United to move within two points of D and D, but with a game in hand.
Ramsey were gifted the points by RYCOB with their northern rivals not able to field a side. The Ballacloan outfit also sit two points behind D and D with two left to play.
Champions Onchan won their penultimate game of the season with Gymns 5-1. The prolific Joe Rees added another three goals to his season’s haul joining Sam Greasley on the scoresheet for the Os.
Pulrose United beat Colby 3-0 in the division’s other games thanks to goals from Darren Flanagan, Adam Phair and the returning Ste Glover.
In Combination One, DHSOB beat Laxey 6-1 thanks to a four-goal haul from first-team manager Liam Buckley.
