The majority of the Canada Life Premier League’s big hitters are through to the next round of the Friends Provident International FA Cup after Saturday afternoon’s preliminary round ties.

Holders St George’s beat Division Two Onchan 5-0 in a match that was switched to Colby’s Station Fields ground.

St Mary’s also avoided a cupset at second-tier Marown after three late goals from Karl Clark and subs Ste Priestnal and Brian Crellin gave them a 4-1 win in Crosby.

Elsewhere, Peel edged past Old Firm rivals Rushen United 4-3 in a seven-goal thriller at Douglas Road.

Lee Gale gave the westerners the lead inside the first minute before Josh Kelly levelled things up for the Spaniards.

Gale struck back less than a minute later to put his side back in front before Matty Cain tied things up once again in the 20th minute.

Peel sub Billy Kennuagh struck midway through the second period to put the westerners back in front. Gale then wrapped up his hat-trick to give Peel a 4-2 lead.

Josh Kelly struck his second of the match to make it 4-3, but United couldn’t add another in the final 10 minutes to send the tie to extra time.

Douglas Athletic triumphed in the round’s other all-Premier League affair, Douglas Athletic beat DHSOB 3-1 thanks to goals from Lee Ford, Connor Dowell and Ste Cowan.

Top-flight sides St John’s and Corinthians made short work of Division Two sides Douglas and District and Governor’s Athletic winning 13-0 and 15-0 respectively.

Flying the flag for Division Two in the next round, however, will be Castletown, Pulrose and Gymns.

Town beat Malew 4-2 thanks to a hat-trick from Alex Crawley in the southern derby at the Stadium, while fellow promotion contenders Pully overcame Union Mills 2-0 thanks to goals from hot shots Ste Glover and Marc Priestnal.

Gymns required extra time to overcome fellow Division Two side Michael 2-1.

In the day’s sole Premier League game, Douglas Royal boosted their survival hopes with a 3-2 win over fellow strugglers Ramsey.
