DHSOB Railway Cup qualification hopes took a blow as they lost 3-2 at top-four rivals Peel on Saturday.

The Blackberry Lane outfit now trail fourth by four points with only a couple of games to go to the Canada Life Premier League’s halfway mark.

Peel were the better side in the first half and should have led by more than Rhys Oates and Shaun Kelly’s goals at the interval.

Lee Gale’s free-kick put the westerners on course for victory, but Old Boys soon set up a tense final quarter.

Gary Quirk finished off a DHSOB counter to make it 3-1 in the 73rd minute, before James McStay netted a second for the visitors with nine minutes left.

Old Boys continued to press for a late equaliser, but both teams were reduced to 10 men in the 89th minute when Peel sub Ryan Holdaway and Old Boys keeper Sam Holliday both received red cards following a late altercation.

Gale hit the woodwork with the resulting free-kick, but neither side could add to their tally during stoppage time as Peel held on to claim the win.

St Mary’s returned to the top of the Premier League standings with a 6-0 win over Douglas Athletic at the Bowl.

Corinthians also look on course for Railway Cup qualification as they saw off a stubborn Marown 6-0 at the Memorial Playing Fields.

At the foot of the standings, Douglas Royal picked up their first win of the season, triumphing 2-1 at out-of-sorts St John’s.

Royal are now only bottom on goal difference from Laxey after the Miners were beaten 4-1 at the Stadium by Castletown as the southerners picked up their second successive win.

In JCK Division Two, Malew slipped to their first defeat of the season as they were beaten 0-1 by Pulrose United. Joe Canipa’s goal settled the game in Clagh Vane in Pully’s favour.

RYCOB, who didn’t play this weekend, remain top but Foxdale are now level with Pulrose in second after they triumphed 5-1 at Douglas and District.

Ramsey remain in the top-four mix after they scored a 4-0 victory over Onchan at Ballacloan.

Fresh for picking up their first point of the season last week, Colby landed their maiden win of the campaign on Saturday winning 6-2 at fellow strugglers Governor’s Athletic.

Gymns also picked up a good win beating Union Mills 3-2 at Garey Mooar.

The second tier’s other match ended in a 9-0 win for Ayre United over Michael United.
