St George’s and Peel kept their Railway Cup hopes alive with wins in Saturday’s round of rearranged matches in the Canada Life Premier League.

Geordies had to come from behind to beat Ramsey 6-1 at Glencrutchery Road. Rob Moreton’s long-range free-kick gave the northerners a lead before Ashley Higginbotham levelled things up midway through the first half.

Joining the former Marown forward on the scoresheet were Joey Quayle (2), Johnny Myers (2) and Joey Morning in a match that saw Calum Morrissey return to action for the hosts after a spell at Michael United.

Two goals in the last 10 minutes gave Peel a 4-2 win over Douglas Royal.

Lee Gale and Daniel Bell had given the westerners an early two-goal lead only for a quick-fire brace from Tom Chatel sent the two sides into the interval all-square.

The westerners required late goals from Rhys Oates and Dan Simpson to seal all three points and keep the side’s feint hopes of retaining the Railway Cup alive.

St Mary’s continue to set the pace at the top of the standings after a 5-1 win over Marown. The Saints are now three points clear of Rushen United at the league’s summit. Both have already qualified for the Railway Cup semi-final draw.

In JCK Division Two, Ayre United and St John’s shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw in Andreas.

The Tangerines battled back from two goals down to move top of the league with Union Mills not playing.

Colby are up to fifth after they triumphed 8-2 at Michael United, while Gymns climbed off the bottom of the second-tier standings after a battling to a 3-3 draw at RYCOB.
