St George’s put rivals Peel to the sword 6-1 in the Hospital Cup on Saturday.
The Cup holders found themselves trailing to Daniel Bell’s 12th-minute goal, but soon took control of the tie as the westerners capitulated.
Chris Bass Jr was gifted the equaliser in the 22nd minute when a mix up between Peel defender Matthew Woods and goalkeeper Owen Dawson allowed him to slide the ball home into an empty net.
Geordies were soon in front when Dawson flapped at a corner, the ball hitting Ciaran McNulty on its way into the net.
Peel shot themselves in the foot again soon after as Furo Davies fired in off the post after seizing on Bell’s fluffed clearance on the edge of the area.
The game was all but wrapped up with a further two goals in the run up to the half-time break.
First Joel Ibanez was upended in the box, McNulty firing home from the penalty spot.
McNulty then added a fifth St George’s goal when he headed in Jack McVey’s centre from the right.
St George’s should have had their half-dozen before the interval, but Ciaran McNulty’s volley went in and came back out off the stanction. Neither referee John McCallum nor assistant James Turpin saw the ball cross the line, so it didn’t count.
Peel improved after the break and enjoyed more chances in the St George’s half, but it would by Joey Morling who would rub further salt in the westerners’ wounds when he fired in a sixth in stoppage time.
Recent FA Cup winners Corinthians are also into the quarter-finals after beating DHSOB 2-0 thanks to goals from Dan Simpson and Connor Gorman.
St John’s, St Mary’s and Douglas Athletic all negotiated their way past Division Two opposition.
The Johnners edged past Union Mills 2-1, while St Mary’s overcame RYCOB 4-1 at a game switched to the Bowl.
The Pinks triumphed 6-1 at Noble’s Park thanks to goals from Dan Sherry, Lee Ford,
Martin Cowan, Ste Cowan and Darren Shields.
Rushen won their southern derby tie with Colby 2-0, Alex Maitland and Josh Kelly netting in each half.
Two second-tier sides remain in the Hospital Cup. Marown saw off promotion rivals Foxdale 3-0 while Malew overcame Ayre United 4-0.
In the day’s two league matches, Douglas Royal boosted their top-flight survival hopes with a 3-1 win over Laxey.
