St Mary’s clinched the club’s maiden Combination One league title on Wednesday with a dramatic 3-2 win at DHSOB.

The Saints led the division for much of the campaign, but a six-point deduction for fielding an ineligible player earlier in the season brought Peel back into title contention.

The westerners led by two points going into the Saints’ final game of the league season at Blackberry Lane, meaning the St Mary’s required a win to land the title.

Mikey Booth put Old Boys 1-0 up from the penalty spot with barely a minute on the clock before Jamie Skillen leveled the scores direct from a corner.

An own goal after good work by Michael Hutton put the Saints in front only for Booth’s second to restore parity once more.

Paddy Cooper’s second-half strike though sealed the all-important three points for the Bowl outfit as Liam Buckley and Ryan Healy were sent off late on for the hosts.

In the evening’s other Combi One encounter St John’s moved off the bottom of the standings with a 5-3 win over Douglas Royal at Mullen-e-Cloie.

The Johnners may yet end up with the wooden spoon though if Marown get a point from their final game of the campaign against DHSOB.

In JCK Combination Two, the battle to secure runners up spot behind champions Onchan rages on.

Malew are up to second after they beat Colby 3-1 thanks to a brace from David Kelly and a single strike from Dorin Tatar.

The Clagh Vane outfit could yet be overhauled though by Ramsey and Union Mills in the standings if the pair win their last games of the season.

Ramsey moved to within two points of Malew with a 3-2 win over a Douglas and District side that was also in contention for second spot. A hat-trick from the evergreen Martin Torr cancelled out Mark Quirk’s 29th goal of the season and Josh Knights’s strike for D and D. The latter end their best season at this level fifth.

Mills could also yet clinch second spot after they triumphed 4-1 at Michael United.

Reigning champions RYCOB brought the curtain down on their season with a 6-3 triumph at northern rivals Ayre United, while Pulrose United edged past Foxdale in the evening’s other match.
