The 2019-20 Manx football league season kicked off in high-scoring fashion on Saturday afternoon.
In the big match of the day, Corinthians and St George’s went head-to-head at Ballafletcher and it was the Saints who triumphed.
Johnny Myers put Geordies ahead from the penalty spot before Joey Morling’s corner went straight in and Maleigh Freestone made it 3-0. Fraser Vaughan netted a late consolation but Geordies ran out 3-1 winners.
Reigning champions St Mary’s were in ruthless form as they thrashed a makeshift newly-promoted Pulrose United side at Springfield Road.
Dan Hattersley had a league debut to remember as he helped himself to no fewer than five goals and he was joined on the scoresheet by Tom Weir, Paddy Cooper, Frank Jones and Kane Ridings as the Saints won 9-0.
Peel and Rushen United were also in good form in front of goal as they saw off the challenges of Ramsey and Marown 5-0 and 6-0.
Rhys Oates took home the matchball for the westerners as he bagged a hat-trick, while Lee Gale completed the scoring with a brace.
Mike Williams and Jamie Johnston both scored twice for the Spaniards while there were also single strikes from Jordan Corkill and Ste Riding.
Laxey got their campaign off to a flying start as they thrashed DHSOB 7-1 at Blackberry Lane.
Joe Walters led the way for the Miners with a brace while there were also goals from Tom Cowin, Stan Manning, Matty Wilkinson, debutant Jordan Cooper and Tommy Callow.
Colby were the biggest winners of the title as they demolished Governor’s Athletic 14-1 at the Station Fields.
There was no doubting the star man as Carl Hickey helped himself to a brilliant eight-goal haul, while also scoring for the Moonlighters were Jordan Primrose-Smith (2), Ste Collister (2), Luke Roberts and Ash Blake.
RYCOB came out on top by the odd goal in nine in thrilling derby against northerner rivals Ayre United.
Callum Sherry 2, Matty Boyd, Harry Grant and an one goal made the difference for Youthie, while Ayre’s goals came from Andrew Crowe, Dean Tate, Harry Weatherill and an own goal.
Title hopefuls Union Mills suffered an opening day defeat as they went down 2-1 at home to St John’s, while Douglas and District claimed an impressive draw at home to Michael United, Foxdale and Braddan draw 2-2 and Malew edged past Gymns 3-2 in Tromode.
