Former St George’s defender Shay Sharkey has joined Northern Irish Premiership side Glenavon.
Sharkey has signed a two and a half year deal with the Lurgan club who currently sit third in the standings, three points behind leaders Ballymena United.
The 28-year-old Ellan Vannin cap left Southern Irish side Sligo Rovers last month at the conclusion of the League of Ireland season after a year and a half with the west coast club.
Sharkey, who has also turned out for Limerick and Derry City, will be available to play for his new club from January.
Glenavon currently have only two fit central defenders after Simon Kelly’s departure before the season started and a long-term injury to Andrew Doyle.
Manager Gary Hamilton said: ’He’s a good player who should bring a bit of experience and add to us when he’s available to play.’
