Manx-born Celtic full-back Kieran Tierney picked up his third cap for Scotland’s senior side on Sunday evening at Hampden Park.
Tierney played the full 90 minutes as Gordon Strachan’s side beat Slovenia 1-0, thanks to Chris Martin’s late goal.
The result leaves the Scots fourth in their World Cup qualifying group behind England, Slovakia and the weekend’s opponents.
strachan’s men face the english at hampden on june 10 in a make or break match for scotland’s qualifying hopes.
Nineteen-year-old Tierney missed the return fixture at Wembley in November with a knee injury.
Tierney was one of the Scots’ stand-out performers despite playing in the unfamiliar position of right-back.
Kieran, who usually lines-up on the left side of defence, said after the match: ’We thought we were the better team over the 90 minutes and the late goal got us the reward.
’We started the game great and could have been a couple of goals up in the first half-hour.
’One thing this squad has got is belief and we always believed we could win and we did that.’
Speaking about his move to the right back Tierney added: ’I’d been shaping up there in training most days this week so I had a feeling I might play there.
’It was obviously different for me, but the manager and coaches have been giving me pointers and tips. I just worked my hardest.’
Tierney’s attentions will now re-focus on Celtic who could yet finish the season with Scotland’s domestic treble.
The Hoops have already won the league cup, are 25 points clear at the top of the Premiership table and are in the semi-finals of the SFA Cup.
