Frank Jones became the 16th man to pick up 50 caps or more for the Isle of Man FA’s senior side during last week’s Umbro tournament in Glasgow.
The St George’s midfielder clocked up his half-century against Northern Ireland’s amateurs on Thursday, as he joined a club that includes the likes of John Ward, Nick Hurt and Neil Shimmin.
In fact the 16 that have made it past the 50-cap mark would combine to make a very handy squad.
Leading the line in this special ’50-plus caps Team of the Week’ would be the FA’s record cap holder and goalscorer Peter Langridge.
The former St Mary’s striker played 89 times for the FA side between 1993 and 2005 plundering 39 goals in the process.
Joining him in the attacking third is the late Neil Shimmin. The Rushen United legend scored 18 goals in 62 appearances in an IoMFA career that spanned nearly 20 years between 1975 and 1993.
In midfield the two Lees, Coxon and Dixon, are joined by recent IoMFA manager Nick Hurt and Chris Bass Jr.
Old Boys man Coxon was capped 57 times after making his debut in 1982.
One of the FA team’s current coaches, Dixon, wore the Isle of Man shirt on 62 occasions during a 10-year spell between 1997-2007.
Hurt, who led the Isle of Man FA side to a first Island Games gold in the summer, is third in the overall list having turned out 81 times for the island, his most recent cap coming against Hitra during the Gotland games.
St George’s winger Bass Jr has netted 23 goals in his 77 caps to peg him fourth on the respective lists for both caps and goals.
In defence three St George’s stalwarts - Julian Ringham, Sean Quaye and Johnny Myers - line up with Peel full-back Danny Lace.
Ringham and Quaye, who have clocked up 70 and 57 caps, look set to add to their tallies after returning to Paul Jones’s squad in recent weeks.
Myers is the FA’s second most capped player, pulling on the FA shirt 82 times since making his debut against Darlington in 2002.
The ever-green Lace racked up 63 appearances for the side between 1998 and last year.
Goalkeeper Ward is the only island number one to feature more than 50 times for the side. The ex-Rushen and Old Boys man played 65 times making his last island appearance in 2002.
Making up a tasty looking five-man bench are Kevin Megson (51 caps), Graeme Bramwell (51), Frank Jones (51), Chris Bass Sr (54) and Calum Morrissey (52). The latter has 31 goals in an Isle of Man FA shirt as he closes in on Langridge’s record total of 39.
The next player that looks likely to join ’Club 50’ is Marc Kelly. The Peel man currently has 48 caps.
