Rushen United continue to lead the way in the Canada Life Premier League after a high-scoring win over Douglas Royal on Saturday afternoon.

The Whites put up a brave fight at Ballafletcher and scored through a Kyle Watson brace plus a Tom Chatel strike, but in the end the Spaniards proved too strong and ran out 7-3 winners to make it five victories out of five.

On the adjacent pitch, Corinthians were pushed hard by a resilient Laxey side but it was the hosts who ultimately triumphed 5-3 to leapfrog their opponents into second in the table.

Joe Walters put the Miners ahead after only 90 seconds but Chris Cannell levelled for the Whites before half-time. Then four goals in a ruthless six-minute spell after the break saw Corinthians take control thanks to Daniel Gerrard, Stephen Whitley, Dan Simpson and Luke Murray finding the back of the net.

Laxey hit back and reduced the deficit through substitute Stan Manning and a Sean Gavin penalty but Corinthians held on to claim all three points.

St George’s are up to fourth in the table after they got the better of rivals Peel at Douglas Road.

The westerners led 2-1 on the hour mark through Andrew Crennell and Scott Horne but, in the end, goals from Sean Quaye, Sid Batty and a Ciaran McNulty hat-trick sealed a 5-2 win for the Saints.

Ayre United recorded their second win in succession thanks to a 4-2 victory over Marown in Andreas thanks to a brace from Danny Oram plus goals from Dean Tate and Shaun Kelly.

Remarkably, Douglas Athletic goalkeeper Adam Kinvig scored twice for the Pinks as they got the better of DHSOB at Springfield Road. Joining him on the scoresheet for the hosts was Reece Lake, Mikey Callister and Martin Cowan.

It was an emotional day for everyone involved for Old Boys, with youngster Jack Townsend seriously ill in Liverpool at the moment. Best wishes go to Jack for a speedy recovery.

Defending champions St Mary’s were pushed all the way at home to St John’s before captain Frank Jones netted an injury-time winner.

Steven Priestnal had put the hosts two goals up with a brace - including one strike from the halfway line - but, after debutant goalkeeper Bobby James was sent off for Mary’s, the Johnners hit back late on through player/manager Callum Taggart and Scott Rotherham, only for Jones to win it in injury time with a header for the home side.

In JCK Division Two, goals from Conor Dempsey, Adam Johnson and Kieran Horrox helped Gymns record an impressive 3-1 victory over promotion hopefuls Foxdale.

Leaders Union Mills came from behind to claim a 6-2 victory over Malew at Garey Mooar. Paddy Cooper put the visitors in front early on but an own goal plus strikes from Ryan Kelly and Luke Booth put the Millers 3-1 ahead at half-time.

After the break, Kelly completed his hat-trick and was joined on the scoresheet by Colm Garrity and, despite Dan McLaughlin pulling a goal back for Malew, it was Mills who claimed all three points.

Ste Collister was the star of the show for Colby as the Moonlighters moved into second place in the fledgling standings. Collister netted no fewer than five goals for Charlie Omar's side who won 9-2 against Michael United. Also getting on the scoresheet for Colby at Balleira Road were Ash Blake with a brace plus single strikes for Jordan Primrose-Smith and Sam Woolland.

Douglas and District are up to third in the table after edging past Castletown by the odd goal in five as substitute Daniel Stewart-Clague grabbed a brace and was joined on the scoresheet by Ben Hall.

Braddan were in ruthless form as they scored 17 goals against a severely depleted Pulrose United side at Victoria Road.

Lee Currer helped himself to a double hat-trick while there were also trebles for Geoff Murphy and Jamie Spicer, plus braces for Nick Harvey and Jamie Delaney as well as an Adam Phair strike.

Elsewhere, Onchan returned to form with a 6-1 victory over Governor’s Athletic at the Station Fields. Tar Phumsai scored for the hosts but there were no details of the Os’ scorers at the time of writing.
