The Isle of Man Football Association’s disability football team is heading to Iceland in mid-September to take part in an invitational five-a-side tournament.

The Football Federation of Iceland, Special Olympics Iceland and the Ã?sp sports club will be hosting this event in Reykjavik together.

IoMFA chief executive Frank Stennett commented: ’This is a really exciting opportunity for both our players and coaching staff to visit a country that has emerged in recent times to be a major force in international football.

’With a population of 312,000, it is amazing to see the number of indoor 3G pitches that have been built right across the country and the considerable positive impact this has had on their domestic and international teams.

’The tournament itself will involve six teams from across Iceland, two from the Faroe Islands, a Liverpool County FA representative team, Warrington Wolves, our old friends from Gibraltar and of course our own team from the Isle of Man.

’Our considerable thanks goes to both Adrian Higgins Specsavers Isle of Man and Steve Hadfield formerly of Paddy Power Online for the kind support that has made this trip possible.

’This will be a real progression for our players and regular training sessions will start soon to ensure we are as best prepared as possible for the tournament.’
