Manx-born Celtic full-back Kieran Tierney completed a remarkable league season with the Glasgow club on Sunday.

Tierney played the full 90 minutes as the Bhoys beat Hearts 2-0 to complete their league season unbeaten, with 34 wins from 38 games.

No team had stayed unbeaten for a season in Scotland’s top flight since Rangers did so in 1888-89, over an 18-game season.

Tierney, who was last week named the Scottish Football Writers Young Player of the Year for the second successive season, is already looking ahead to this weekend’s Scottish Cup final with Aberdeen.

Having already beaten Aberdeen to win the League Cup, they face the Dons on Saturday in a game that could seal Celtic the treble.

The 19-year-old told the Glasgow Evening Times after the weekend’s latest celebration: ’It is a great achievement and we are really proud of it but we still have our focus on the Cup final.’

’We all enjoyed yesterday and the chance to go out and have a party with our own fans but I don’t think there is anyone here that thinks it is over for us yet.

’We have a chance to go and get the Scotttish Cup now and this week will be like every other week this season - we will be working hard and pushing to put in the best performances that we can.

’The manager is never going to let us drop the ball.

’It has been relentless and that is the way that we want it to be.

’Now the challenge will be to go out and do it all over again. I don’t know when I believed that we might do. I just tried to keep going into each game and I didn’t really want to think about it too much.

’It is nice to know that we will be remembered for it but it isn’t the only thing that we want to be remembered for. There is still so much more for us to aim for here before the season finishes.

’Aberdeen won 6-0 yesterday so they will be coming to Hampden feeling pretty good about themselves. It is up to us to make sure that we go into that game with the same attitude that we have had all season.’

Tierney also praised former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers for the effect he has had at the club during his first season in charge: ’He has been brilliant for me and brilliant for the team.

’I think we all knew he was a top-quality manager but he has taken the pressure off the players and just allowed us to concentrate on getting better.

’I feel that I have learned my position so much better this season, I have a greater technical understanding and he has really helped me to develop. I can’t thank him enough. To be able to play and be part of a season like that is so special and it never gets tired.

’You can never get enough of being able to go and experience days like that yesterday. It is what drives us and we want the same again at Hampden next weekend. That is the way that we want to end the season.’
