It’s the time of year when squirrels will be feverishly storing up their nuts in preparation for the barren spell of winter.

The same could be said about Laxey as they aim to make it two wins out of two in the Canada Life Premier League on Saturday.

Johnny Palmer’s Miners host Ramsey this weekend in what it is probably the last time the club will have their raft of university students available prior to the Christmas break.

The Glen Road outfit made a flying start to the new campaign last time out, comfortably beating DHSOB.

Half a dozen of the side that triumphed 7-1 at Blackberry Lane are headed off-island in the coming weeks and Palmer will be keen to squirrel away three points from this weekend’s winnable fixture against promoted Ramsey.

The northerners were given a tough introduction to life back in the Premier League by Peel last time out, and Anthony Cooper’s young squad will be eager to bounce back.

This one will be close, with the Miners edging it if their scholars are still available.

Elsewhere some lob-sided scorelines look on the cards.

After putting nine past Pulrose United on Saturday, St Mary’s goal difference could by in for another big boost as they host DHSOB at the Bowl.

The latter side lost several of its first-team fold over the summer , including Sam Holliday, Adam Adebiyi and Matty Kent-Lloyd to the Saints, and are yet to get back on an even keel.

Pulrose could also be on the wrong end of another big scoreline as they travel to a young St George’s side who are improving by the week.

Marown, who shipped six against Rushen United on the opening weekend, also look set to endure another tough afternoon as they travel to Peel for a western derby of sorts.

The top-flight’s other game on Saturday afternoon should be a closer affair at Springfield Road where Douglas Athletic host Corinthians. The latter side lost to Geordies at the weekend and will be hoping Sean Doyle has recovered from injury to lead the line against Craig Purvis’s Pinks. New Whites goalkeeper Matty Quirk should also get a warm reception against his former side.
