Marown can clinch the JCK Division Two league title this evening (Thursday) providing they beat Governor’s Athletic by a healthy scoreline.

Dave Brew’s Crosby side moved to within three points of leaders Castletown -courtesy of an impressive 5-0 win over Onchan on Tuesday evening. Marown went into the game on the back of snatching a dramatic injury-time draw against Town on Saturday, meaning they had to win their final two games of the season with a plus-11 goal swing to clinch the title on goal difference.

Brew’s men played against the wind in first half at Ballafletcher and struggled to break the Os down. However, they managed to sneak ahead thanks to a strike from in-form Ashley Higginbotham.

Buoyed by that goal, Marown began the second half well but missed several chances to increase their lead. Higginbotham missed two good opportunities, while Cameron Avery sidefooted an effort over and Connor Gilbert forced the Onchan goalkeeper into making a save.

The hosts kept plugging away and eventually doubled their lead from a corner when Stuart Morris headed home for 2-0. The lead was increased further when Gilbert scored directly from a corner before Andrew Marshall netted their fourth with a far-post effort.

Higginbotham rounded off the scoring late on after good hold up play by Andy O’Neill to seal a 5-0 win.

The other game saw Union Mills battle to a hard-fough 2-1 victory away to Douglas and District.
