For the second week in a row, Marown are well represented in Isle of Man Newspapers’ Team of the Week.

Matthew McQuarrie made his seasonal debut last week after impressing against Douglas Royal and he’s back again this time around, joined by his younger brother Alex who makes his debut.

The siblings were in excellent form for the Crosby outfit as they took a huge step towards Canada Life Premier League safety with a surprise 2-1 win away at DHSOB.

Joining the McQuarrie brothers in a three-man defence in the latest hypothetical XI is Douglas Athletic’s James Aire who produced a man-of-the-match display for the Pinks as they edged past Castletown 4-3 at Springfield Road.

Completing a trio of Marown players in the latest TotW is prodigious goalkeeping talent Harry Horbury who delivered an excellent performance in between the sticks to thwart the Old Boys’ attack and therefore earns his second appearance of the campaign.

The five-man midfield were certainly not shot-shy at the weekend as they grabbed eight goals between them in Saturday’s matches, led by Corinthians’ Dan Simpson who was the star of the show with a hat-trick to help brush aside Ballafletcher rivals Douglas Royal 10-2.

Also impressing in that game was team-mate Stephen Whitley who helped himself to a brace and also set up three goals for the Whites.

St George’s ended Rushen United’s long unbeaten run with a 4-1 success at Glencrutchery Road, in which Sid Batty delivered a man-of-the-match display to earn his second TotW call-up of the season.

His Geordies team-mate Chris Bass Jr was also one of the game’s leading performers and he capped an impressive display with a late goal to sink the Spaniards. The winger is joined in Team of the Week by former team-mate Frank Jones who was at the double for title hopefuls St Mary’s as they got the better of St John’s 3-0.

The frontline contains plenty of aerial threat as Martin Cowan and Sean Doyle complete the latest Team of the Week.

Doyle was in fine fettle for Corinthians as he grabbed a goal in their aforementioned win over Royal, while Cowan starred with a well-taken hat-trick for Douglas Athletic against Castletown in their eighth win of the season.

Picking up the refereeing honours for the third time thus far this season is Andy Lodge who delivered a good performance in difficult conditions during Marown’s victory at DHSOB.
