Max Murley has been named as the Canada Life Premier League Player of the Month for September.

The versatile Laxey man has been in superb form for the Miners during the opening few weeks of the 2019-20 football season, playing a key role in helping his side claim three successive victories.

Having only narrowly avoided relegation to the second division last season, the Glen Road side have already amassed for than half of last year’s points total after only three games and are sitting pretty in second place in the fledgling standings.

Murley inspired his team to a ruthless 7-1 victory over DHSOB on the opening day, before they thrashed Ramsey 6-0 the following week and brushed aside Marown 4-0 in their most recent outing.

As such, Murley has impressed Eric Clague’s esteemed ratings panel and garnered an impressive total of eight points from the opening three games, ensuring he picked up the coveted Player of the Month trophy at the Bowl on Thursday morning.

He was half-a-point in front of St Mary’s striker Dan Hattersley who has enjoyed a free-scoring start to life at the club following his summer move from Rushen United.

The former Stockport, Halifax and Geelong professional footballer plundered no fewer than five goals on the opening day of the season against Pulrose United, before following it up with a four-goal haul against Old Boys and another strike versus Ramsey to take his tally to 10 goals already.

Hattersley was, in turn, 1.5 points ahead of two players - one of which is a current team-mate and the other is a former team-mate.

Adam Adebiyi is another player who has started the new season in fine form for St Mary’s and the youngster caught the eye with a series of good performances at full-back for the Premier League champions.

Hattersley’s ex-Rushen cohort Jamie Johnston has stolen the headlines for the Spaniards with a couple of excellent showings for the Croit Lowey side, netting twice against Marown and bagging a hat-trick versus Douglas Royal.

Three players were locked together on 5.5 points for their performances during September, namely St George’s new signing Jacob Crook, St Mary’s talisman and reigning Football Writers’ Player of the Year Jack McVey and Rushen’s Ste Riding.

As a result of his impressive performances for St George’s since transferring from Douglas Royal, Crook has been named as the Young player of the Month.

The aforementioned Dan Hattersley leads the fledgling Golden Boot standings with his haul of 10 goals.

There are then three players all on five goals, namely Furo Davies, Jamie Johnston and Jordan Cooper of surprise package Laxey.

Peel duo Lee Gale and Rhys Oates are next on four goals apiece, followed by Luke Jollands (Douglas Athletic), Frank Jones (St Mary’s), Jonny Quirk (DHSOB), Fraser Vaughan and Ste Whitley (both Corinthians) and Mike Williams (Rushen) all on three goals.

Player ratings for September: 1, Max Murley (Laxey) 8 points; 2, Dan Hattersley (Rushen) 7.5; 3=, Adam Adebiyi (St Mary’s) and Jamie Johnston (Rushen) 6; 5=, Jacob Crook (St George’s), Jack McVey (St Mary’s) and Ste Riding (Rushen) 5.5; 8, Rhys Oates (Peel) 5; 9=, Andy Cleator (Ramsey), Lee Gale (Peel) and Jay Skelcher-Maxwell (St George’s) 4.5; 12=, Mikey Callister (Douglas Athletic), Martin Cowan (Douglas Athletic), Furo Davies (St George’s), Dean France (DHSOB), Harry Horbury (Marown), Frank Jones (St Mary’s), Andy Perry (Ramsey) and Jonny Quirk (DHSOB) 4; 20=, James Aire (Douglas Athletic), Karl Clark (St Mary’s), Jordan Cooper (Laxey), David Reynolds (Laxey), Ste Whitley (Corinthians) and Mike Williams (Rushen).
