Isle of Man FA men’s team manager Paul Jones is inviting players who wish to be considered for forthcoming squads to a meeting next week.
An email sent to all club secretaries earier this week by Jones said: ’As I am sure you are aware the IoMFA senior team was recently knocked out of the FA Inter-League Cup by North Riding League.
’We are extremely disappointed by this result and have reflected long and hard about how to move forwards with the squad. Although the result stops us from progressing in the competition, it has enabled us to review where we are and where we are going, in effect, press the reset button, so we can move forwards in a positive and constructive manner.
’This we hope will help us to improve what we do both on and off the field of play in the coming years.
’I have invited all current squad/training group players to a meeting on Wednesday, March 28 at 7:30pm
’They have been contacted individually and we will confirm to you who will be in attendance at the earliest opportunity, depending on how quickly they reply.
’I would also like to invite any registered players at your club (between the ages of 16-33 and capable of playing in the Canada Life Premier Division) who would like to be considered for the squad to attend a separate meeting on the same night.’
Jones is keen to stress that attendance at either meeting will not equate to players selection in the Island squad going forwards but attendance will demonstrate to him who is interested in challenging themselves to progress as a footballer. Selection for future Island squads will be made from those players who understand the environment they are going into and are willing to commit to the group over a period of time.
Jones added: ’At the end of the meeting the players will have a seven-day period in which to indicate whether they would like to be considered for the squad over the coming 12 months.
’The players who would like to attend are required to send their name, date of birth and club details to [email protected]
’The players have until 5pm on Monday, March 26, to let us know whether they would like to attend. Players who are interested but unable to attend should also contact using the above email BUT also be aware that no further meetings will be held to share this information prior to squad training resuming.’
The meeting, which takes place at 8.30pm at the Bowl, will discuss several things including the type of person/player Jones and his coaches are looking to work with, the training and playing opportunities being provided over the next three years and the commitment required from those who become involved. Those present will also include representatives from the IoMFA and team sponsor Back Office Services.
