Union Mills put in an impressive second-half display against an injury-ravaged Colby on Saturday, defeating them 6-3 at the Station Fields in JCK Division Two.
But they didn’t have all their own way as Colby dominated the first-half hour and were deserving of a two-goal lead. Within the first minute Jordan Edge opened the scoring, expertly placing a shot into the bottom right.
Daniel Thirlwell and Luke Roberts had chances to add to the tally before Ste Collister doubled the lead on 27 minutes. Greg Radcliffe’s free-kick was half-cleared and the former Malew man controlled the ball before scoring a half-volley.
The Clarets managed to gain a foothold after 37 minutes when Jordan Crawley’s cross picked out Luke Booth who looped a header home from an acute angle. The visitors regrouped at the break and netted an equaliser on 52 minutes when Booth fired home a diagonal shot.
Mills manager Steven Fox made a triple substitution and one of them gave the visitors the lead for the first time when Craig Ennett crossed towards the far post and Colm Garrity raced in to superbly head home.
The same player put the visitors further in control when he cut in from the left and brilliantly placed his shot into the bottom right for a fine individual goal.
Colby briefly found their feet again when they were awarded a penalty, Collister making no mistake from the spot. But two minutes later Mills restored their two-goal cushion when Richie Cannell’s cross evaded goalkeeper Jim Gale and Booth headed in to complete his hat-trick.
Millers rounded off the scoring in added time when Booth danced his way through the defence, before linking up with Garrity who set up Crawley to sweep home as the Millers maintained pole position in the with a 100 per cent record.PAUL HATTON
