Rhys Oates has been named as the Canada Life Premier League Player of the Month for October.
The Peel attacker enjoyed a scintillating few weeks for the westerners as he helped the Douglas Road side embark on a seven-match winning run in the top flight.
That run includes notable victories against DHSOB and league leaders St Mary’s, while a man of the match performance helped Peel end a four-year wait for victory at rivals St George’s on the weekend of November, which suggests he may well be in the running for this month’s award as well.
The former St John’s man has settled into life extremely well under Steve Falconer and a series of impressive performances for the Sunset City side helped him garner a total of 6.5 points from Eric Clague’s player ratings panel.
That was half a mark ahead of a trio of players, including Jack Camarda who picks up the coveted Young Player of the Month award.
The talented teen - currently away at Myerscough College - returned to the island briefly to help Castletown pick up two potentially vital wins as the Mets attempt to retain their Premier League status at the first time of asking since their promotion last season.
The midfielder ran the show against Douglas Royal at Ballafletcher, scoring twice - including a goal of the season contender - to help the southerners win 6-3, before following that up with another excellent showing in their 4-1 win over Laxey.
Joining him on six points for the month are Lee Gale and Sean Doyle who shone for Peel and Corinthians respectively.
Much like Oates, Gale has been instrumental for the westerners since making his return from an Achilles injury and produced several top-drawer performances over recent weeks to help the westerners up to second in the table and firmly in the title race.
Doyle has been at the forefront of Corinthians’ own title charge, helping the Whites win five successive matches and scoring a hatful of goals, including a hat-trick at Laxey. As such, the striker is joint top in the Golden Boot standings on 17 goals alongside Furo Davies.
Rushen attacker Mike Williams also enjoyed a fine month for the Spaniards and completes the top five on five points, ahead of three players all on 4.5, namely Dan Simpson, Terry Rigaux and Will Penhallurick.
Simpson continues to lead the way in the overall standings and now has a five-point cushion over second-placed man Gale, while third is St Mary’s star Jack McVey.
