One of Manx football’s stand-out fixtures takes place on Saturday afternoon as Peel host Rushen United in the Canada Life Premier League.

The second Old Firm meeting of the campaign promises to be a cracker at Douglas Road with the two sides only separated by a couple of points in the standings.

Rushen currently sit in second, six points behind leaders St Mary’s, but with a game in hand on the reigning champions.

Steve Falconer’s westerners are a further two points adrift in third having played the same amount of games as their opponents on Saturday.

Liam Cowin’s charges head into the match a tad lacking on game time, having only managed one outing in the FA Cup since the middle of last month.

Peel have only played one more in the same period, last week’s 4-2 triumph at Douglas Royal, but may have a slight edge on match sharpness.

The reverse fixture at Croit Lowey ended in a 2-2 draw. A point apiece again this time would play into the hands of title rivals St Mary’s.

Depending on the result at Peel, St George’s could move up to third with three points from the visit of Marown.

Geordies have a couple of games in hand on the leaders that if won would move them to within three points of the Bowl outfit.

Corinthians will also be looking to hang on to the coat tails of Alex Harrison’s pacesetters with a win against DHSOB.

The Whites were in good form last week beating Pulrose 8-0. This game should prove a tougher prospect, however, with Old Boys buoyed by last week’s last-gasp win over mid-table rivals Douglas Athletic.

The latter will look to bounce back to winning ways when they host Ramsey at Springfield Road.

The northerners are only three points off the bottom, but may yet secure a point for their top-flight survival fund in this one.

Second-bottom Douglas Royal may also sniff the opportunity of a point this weekend when they travel to Laxey. The Miners will start the encounter at Glen Road as favourites, but a run of only two wins in their last six suggests Johnny Palmer’s side aren’t quite hitting the form they did when they won the reverse fixture 8-2.
