Corinthians booked their place in the semi-finals of this season’s Friends Provident FA Cup thanks to a hard-fought 4-2 win over St Mary’s.

The match at the Bowl was one of only three fixtures to survive the wet weather which plagued pitches across the island.

Dan Simpson gave the Whites a dream start when he scored within the first minute, before Stephen Whitley missed the chance to double the lead when his penalty was saved by Kiril Velev.

The Saints responded well and went close up equalizing but it was Corinthians who scored next when Sean Doyle prodded past the keeper despite the home side appealing for a foul.

However, the hosts halved the deficit when Tom Hall drove home a low strike just before halftime, then player/manager Alex Harrison scored a screamer in the opening minute of the second half to drag his side level.

However, Simpson soon restored Corinthians’ lead when he slotted home Tom Callister’s fine through ball, before Conor Gorman sealed the win late on when his driven shot from outside the box deflected into the back of the net to complete a 4-2 win.

The only other two games to go ahead on Saturday afternoon saw routine wins for Rushen United and Peel against Douglas Royal and Douglas Athletic respectively.

Rushen were made to work hard for their win at Ballafletcher but in the end a brace from Josh Kelly, plus strikes from Ste Riding, Jack Snidal, Adam Kinley and a rare goal for keeper Dean Kearns completed a 6-0 win for the Spaniards.

There were also plenty of goals at Douglas Road where Peel brushed aside Douglas Athletic 7-1.

Lee Gale led the way for the westerners with a hat-trick - including one penalty - while there were also goals for Billy Kennaugh, Daniel Bell, Dominic McGreevy and Jonny Shields. Connor Dowell netted DAFC’s consolation.
