Peel moved to the top of the Canada Life Premier League after emphatically brushing aside Laxey at Douglas Road on Saturday afternoon.

The westerners went into the clash locked on 28 points with leaders St Mary’s but with an inferior goal difference.

However, they closed to within three goals of the Saints thanks to an 11-1 demolition of Laxey and there was no doubting the star of the show as Rhys Oates helped himself to five goals.

He was joined on the scoresheet by a Lee Gale brace, plus strikes from Marc Kelly, Matthew Woods, Kerron Christian and Dominic McGreevy. Michael Fernandes scored the Miners’ consolation who remain perilously close to the relegation zone.

In the only other Premier League game to go ahead on a day disrupted by the Isle of Man FA under-18s match away at Norfolk (plus some rogue weedkiller), Rushen United proved too strong for St John’s United at Mullen-e-Cloie.

Jack Saxon and Josh Kelly led the way for the Spaniards with a brace apiece and they were joined on the scoresheet by Dan Hattersley and Mike Williams (full report in Tuesday’s Examiner).

Unfortunately the Isle of Man U18s were knocked out of the FA County Youth Cup by holders Norfolk FA.

The English side led at the break, only for Taylor Andrews to equalise for the Manx youngsters immediately after the break.

However, it wasn’t long before Norfolk retook the the lead and added a third late on to send the island side out of the competition.

RYCOB remain on top of JCK Division Two after thrashing bottom-of-the-table Governor’s Athletic 13-2 at Bemahague thanks largely to a four-goal haul from Ste Grose.

Jason Craine also helped himself to a hat-trick and Martyn Murphy grabbed a brace, while there were further goals for Daniel Sherry, Jed Fisher, Dylan Parish and Evan Johnstone.

Pulrose United remain their nearest challengers after the Springfield Road side hammered Michael United 8-0, with no fewer than eight different goal scorers.

Grabbing the goals were Mark O’Neill, Marc and Steven Priestnal, Craig Cowin, Owen and Joe Canipa, Jacob Thomas and Nathan Yates.

Foxdale remain third after goals from Ricky Newsham, Andy Williamson, Jay Chatwood and an own goal secured a 4-0 win at Ayre United, while headers from Daniel Thirlwell and Ste Collister earned Malew a 2-1 win over 10-man southern rivals Colby at Clagh Vane (full report in Tuesday’s Examiner).

Ramsey were in good scoring form as the northerners brushed aside Gymns 7-0 at Ballacloan Stadium. Father and son Martin (2) and Cameron Torr were both on the scoresheet for the hosts, while Rob Moreton, Nick White (2) and an own goal completed the win for Ramsey.

There was also a high-scoring game at Garey Mooar where Union Mill triumphed 7-4 against Douglas and District.

Daniel Stewart-Clague and Sam Tipper were both at the double for D&D, but the Millers were able to secure the three points on offer, although no details of their scorers are available at this time.
