The four remaining teams in the Friends Provident International FA Cup will be whittled down to two this weekend.

In Manx football’s very own ’Super Saturday’ the two semi-finals will take place one after each other, starting with the holders Peel’s game with Division Two Foxdale at 1.15pm. It’s the first time these two have played each in a competitive first-team fixture in 20 years. The last time they met was way back in 1997 when a certain Rick Holden (2) and Tommy Clucas were on target in a 3-1 Woods Cup first round win.

Steve Falconer’s Sunset City side will also be favourites for the victory in this one having strung together a run of seven straight wins in all competitions.

Postponements have hit Dale’s promotion bid in recent weeks, but they will be fired up for this derby game. Dale striker Aaron Costain swapped red and white for mauve and blue in the summer, while keeper Stuart Fayle and defender Antony Corkill play for Peel’s masters side.

With western pride at stake the day’s ’early’ kick-off at Peel’s temporary home of Colby should be a cracker.

The afternoon’s second semi, which kicks off at 3.30pm, sees Grand Slam-chasing St George’s take on Douglas Athletic at Glencrutchery Road.

The latter made it into the FA Cup semi-finals for the first time in the club’s history after edging past St Mary’s 4-3 in last weekend’s dramatic quarter-final at Springfield Road.

Athletic’s hopes of a claiming another scalp, however, look slim with Geordies steaming toward another clean sweep of major silverware.

Chris Bass Sr’s men were given a scare by Rushen in the previous round, but will be favourites for this one having already beaten the Pinks twice 6-2 and 7-0 already this season.

l There’s three rearranged games in the Canada Life Premier League this Saturday.

The battle for second could be decided as the two sides in the running, Corinthians and St Mary’s, go head to head at Ballafletcher.

Elsewhere Ramsey can secure their top-flight status and relegate Union Mills in the process with a point or more against Colby. Finally St John’s host Laxey.
