Pulrose United clinched the GH Corlett Woods Cup in dramatic fashion at the Bowl on Good Friday.

Paul Guiver’s Springfield Road side had to dig deep to see off the challenge of in-form Marown at the national stadium, with Marc Priestnal firing home the winner in extra-time.

Marown started the game positively as Dave Brew’s charges took the game to their opponents, going close early on through Ash Higginbotham.

However, it was Pully who broke the deadlock just before the half-hour mark when Stephen Glover fired the reds in front.

The lead didn’t last long though, as Marown dragged themselves level a few minutes later when Stuart Morris headed in Adam Mealin’s cross at the back post.

The Crosby side completed the turnaround shortly after the interval when Pully failed to deal with a trademark Cameron Avery throw-in, allowing Morris to volley home his second of the afternoon.

But they were immediately pegged back when Jacob Thomas powered home a bullet header from a corner, with Marown furious that it should have been a goal-kick.

The two sides couldn’t be separated during the remainder of normal time and so the match proceeded to the additional 30 minutes of extra-time.

Pulrose wasted little time in stamping their authority in the first period as they scored the decisive goal within the opening 40 seconds, Priestnal racing through on goal before coolly slotting the ball past Marown keeper Jack Telford.

As Marown pushed for a late leveller, they went agonisingly close when Connor Gilbert had a shot cleared off the line by Pully skipper Craig Cowin.

To make matters worse, they were reduced to 10 men seconds later when the same player received his second yellow card of the game.

There was still time for yet more drama though, as in the last minute Ash Higginbotham thought he had sent the match to penalties, only for his header to be somehow clawed out from underneath the bar by Pully goalkeeper Stuart Morris, therefore ensuring Guiver’s men clinched the Woods Cup for the first time in 40 years.
