A trio of Douglas Royal players have been included in the latest installment of Isle of Man Newspapers’ Team of the Week.

The Whites produced one of the biggest shocks in recent memory in the Canada Life Premier League when they stunned DHSOB 6-2 on their own turf.

Grabbing the headlines in that game at Blackberry Lane was Taylor Andrews who helped himself to a hat-trick and he duly takes his place in the hypothetical XI.

Joining him in the front three are two more players who also bagged hat-tricks at the weekend, namely Darren Hudgeon and Dan Hattersley.

Hudgeon was the match winner for St Mary’s as they saw off the challenge of title rivals Corinthians by the odd goal in five at the Bowl, in doing so earning his third TotW call-up of the season.

Likewise, Hattersley delivered a man of the match performance for Rushen United as the Spaniards went agonisingly close to ending Peel’s 10-match winning run before Kerron Christian’s last-gasp equaliser.

Impressing most for the westerners in that game at Douglas Road was the in-form Rhys Oates who earns his fourth call-up of the season after another strong display for the hosts, including grabbing a crucial goal to spark the comeback.

Slotting in alongside Oates in a three-man midfield are two players making their seasonal debuts in Team of the Week, in the shape of George Burrows and Chris Anderson.

Burrows was Laxey’s best player as the Miners very nearly picked up a precious point from their trip to high-flying Douglas Athletic, before eventually going down 2-3.

Despite Andrews’ aforementioned hat-trick, Anderson was arguably the man of the match during Royal’s shock win at Old Boys, grabbing a goal in an all-round impressive display as the Whites gave themselves a huge boost in their quest to stave off relegation.

Also shining for the Ballafletcher side in that match was Stuart Foley who excelled at full-back as the visitors frustrated their more illustrious opponents, and he duly takes his place in TotW for the first time this season.

Joining him in a traditional four-man defence are Karl Clark, James Aire and Nick Leung. Clark was in typically fine form at the back for St Mary’s as he helped his side overcome Corinthians at the Bowl, while Aire delivered a man of the match performance for Douglas Athletic as they edged past Laxey at Springfield Road.

Leung, as ever, has been one of St John’s best players this season and that was the case once again on Saturday as he helped the Saints claim a 4-2 win at home to Castletown, a result which should - in all likelihood, ensure their place in the top flight next season.

Also impressing in that game at Mullen-e-Cloie was goalkeeper James Rice who produced several final saves to deny the southerners and therefore he earns his maiden Team of the Week appearance of the campaign.

Claiming the refereeing honours this week is Andy Lodge who impressed with the whistle during the heavyweight clash between St Mary’s and Corinthians.
