Rushen United recorded a highly impressive victory over defending champions St Mary’s in the Canada Life Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
Kyle Lunn gave the Spaniards a first-half lead and the Saints lost influential skipper Frank Jones in the second half prior to Mike Williams smashing home his side’s second to end the visitors’ unbeaten start to the campaign.
That result gave Laxey an opportunity to return to the top of the table and the Miners did just that by salvaging a last-gasp draw away at Peel.
Dan Simpson looked set to give the westerners all three points with a goal soon after halftime but, with only seconds remaining in the match. Dave Corlett grabbed an injury-time equaliser to earn a point which put the Glen Road side back to the top of the table.
Corinthians were in rampant mood as they thrashed Marown 9-0 in Crosby thanks to hat-tricks from Stephen Whitley and Luke Murray. Completing the scoring for the Whites was Sean Doyle with a brace plus a Josh Ridings strike.
St George’s are up to third after maintaining their perfect start to the campaign by thrashing Douglas Royal 7-0 at Ballafletcher.
Ash Higginbotham led the way with a brace and he was joined on the scoresheet by Johnny Myers, Morgan Naylor, Connor Hislop, Sean Quaye and Chris Bass Jr.
In JCK Division Two, Colby came from behind to get the better of RYCOB in a high-scoring game switched to the Station Fields.
Youthie raced into an early two-goal lead courtesy of efforts by Dan Callow and Ste Grose, but the Moonlighters hit back through braces from Ashley Blake, Marty Moore and Carl Hickey to seal a 6-2 victory.
Braddan were the biggest winners of the day in the second tier as they thrashed Malew 7-0 thanks largely to a four-goal haul by Lee Currer. Also scoring for the Swans were Mikey Hutton with a brace plus Tom O’Neill.
Onchan came out on top against Douglas and District at Noble’s Park where, despite Ben Hall’s goal for the hosts, strikes from earned a 4-1 win for the Os.
Elsewhere, Michael United proved too strong for Governor’s Athletic as they ran out comfortable 6-0 winners at Balleira Road.
