League leaders RYCOB could put a little breathing space between themselves and the chasing pack in JCK Division Two this weekend.
With current runners-up Pulrose United enjoying a break, Youthie have a chance to increase their advantage at the top of the standings when they host Governor’s Athletic at Scoill ree Goree.
The northerners will start as sure-fire favourites to win this Saturday, especially having beaten Malew in such convincing fashion last time out, but they need to be wary of complacency against Manx football’s newest side.
Tom Chamberlain’s Governor’s charges stunned promotion hopefuls Castletown last month and are therefore capable of pulling off a shock on their day.
With Pully not playing, Foxdale could leapfrog the Springfield Road outfit into second place should they get the better of Ayre United in Andreas.
That could be easier said that done though. While the Tangerines have endured an inconsistent season so far, they held title favourites RYCOB to a draw earlier in the season and, with the likes of Dean Tate, Jamie Skillan and Jamie Callister in their ranks, they could causes Foxdale a few problems.
A close game could be in store at the Nivison Stadium where fourth-placed Onchan take on a Castletown side which returned to form last Saturday with a 4-1 win over Ayre.
Form certainly favours the hosts as the Os are unbeaten in over a month, but Gary Sansbury’s southerners will be eager to push on up the table and challenge for a place in the top four.
Having lost heavily at the hands of Youthie last time out, Malew will be desperate to get their season back on track when they travel to Noble’s Park to take on Douglas and District. Having already beaten the likes of Ayre this season, D&D will certainly be no pushovers though and may just fancy their chances of claiming a win here.
The remaining two fixtures in the second division this weekend should result in away wins as in-form duo Marown and Union Mills travel to Michael United and Gymns respectively.
Marown could sneak into the top four if other results go their way, while Mills could leap up to sixth in the standings with games in hand.
