Reigning champions St George’s put their unbeaten record on the line this weekend when they visit Rushen United in the Canada Life Premier League.

The Saints dug deep to claim a dramatic point against Corinthians at Glencrutchery Road last Saturday, twice coming from two goals down to clinch a 3-3 draw.

This weekend’s clash promises to be another intriguing battle which could well go either way, although Geordies will start as favourites. Having said that, when the teams met in this corresponding fixture last season, the Spaniards stunned the eventual champions with a 4-0 win.

Rushen were on the receiving end of a 3-1 defeat away at DHSOB last weekend so Liam Cowin will be hoping to guide his team to success against his former side.

Castletown will be hoping to kickstart their bid for Premier League survival when they welcome Douglas Athletic to The Stadium. The newly-promoted Mets may well have targeted this game as one of the ones to realistically get points from if they’re do beat the drop.

But the Pinks have made a flying start to the season with four wins from six, therefore they’ll be confident of racking up another three points this Saturday, especially with former Town striker Mark Wolfenden in good form.

Having seen two points slip from their grasp against Geordies, Corinthians will be eager to get back to winning ways when they ’host’ Douglas Royal in a Ballafletcher derby. Tipped by many to go down this season, Royal are yet to claim any points in 2018-19 but produced a spirited performance against Laxey last time out. Expect a comfortable Corinthians win, but Royal will try to make life difficult for them.

The latter’s fellow relegation battlers Marown face a tough test at home to resurgent DHSOB, a game which Old Boys should claim all three points from.

The weekend’s fixtures actually kickoff slightly earlier under the Friday night lights of Mullen e Cloie where St John’s host league leaders St Mary’s.

The home side suffered late heartbreak against westerner rivals Peel on Saturday and so will be desperate to bounce back, therefore this game could well turn out to be an early-season cracker.
