Three rearranged Hospital Cup quarter-finals take centre-stage this weekend as the end of the 2018-19 season fast approaches.
Only one of the Keystone Law-sponsored competition’s last-eight ties survived the weather last Saturday - when St Mary’s beat Peel 3-0 - so it’s take two this weekend for the remaining ties.
A week ago Division Two high-fliers Ramsey would have been confident of causing a ’cupset’ at home to one of Premier League’s most inconsistent sides, DHSOB. But Old Boys recorded an impressive victory over Corinthians in midweek and therefore the Blackberry Lane outfit will go into the rearranged game with renewed belief.
A close game could be on the cards when second division side Foxdale attempt to surprise Marown in a match which has been switched to The Stadium in Castletown.
The ’hosts’ have enjoyed a fine season back in the top flight and secured their survival comfortably. Foxdale, by contrast, have endured a somewhat mixed campaign in Division Two and look certain to miss out on promotion.
But the Billy Goat Park outfit stunned Premier League side St John’s in the previous round and will fancy their chances again. Marown haven’t played a game in several weeks so they may not be match sharp, but Dave Brew’s men will start the contest as favourites to book their place in the semi-finals.
The last quarter-final is between Douglas Athletic and St George’s at Springfield Road and, with the Pinks going into the match on the back of a heavy defeat at the hands of newly-crowned champions St Mary’s, Geordies will be expected to win fairly comfortably.
There are also a couple of JCK Division Two matches scheduled for Saturday, most notably the top-of-the-table clash between Pulrose United and Malew.
Pully lie second in the table some three points clear of their third-placed opponents and a win for the Reds would all but guarantee promotion to the Premier League and put them back on top of the division. A defeat for Malew would end their promotion hopes so both sides will be well up for this one.
The other match sees a northern derby of sorts, with Michael United playing host to in-form Ayre United.
