There was certainly no shortage of goals in the Canada Life Premier League last weekend, with 34 being scored in only four games.

As such, it’s no surprise to see many of those goal-getters being included in the latest Isle of Man Newspapers’ Team of the Week, which also features three debutants.

One of those making their first appearance in the hypothetical XI is Peel prodigy Billy Kennaugh who stole the show for the westerners against Braddan at Douglas Road. The talented teen scored a hat-trick as the Sunset City side brushed aside the Swans 7-0 - in doing so, the striker earned a call-up to the Isle of Man Under-18s squad for this weekend’s FA County Youth Cup quarter-final (see back page).

Slotting in alongside the youngster in the three-pronged attacked are Sean Doyle and Ciaran McNulty who, between them, scored no fewer than eight goals on Saturday. McNulty took another step closer to winning the Golden Boot award again after he bagged a five-goal haul as St George’s beat bottom-of-the-table Ramsey 8-2 at Glencrutchery Road, therefore earning his fifth TotW appearance of the season.

That’s the same total as Corinthians star Doyle who continued his rich run of form with a hat-trick for the Whites who thrashed out-of-sorts Colby at Ballafletcher, a result which keeps his side top of the table on goal difference.

The latter’s team-mate Blane Slattery was another player who shone during that resounding win and his performance has resulted in him being given his seasonal TotW debut in a four-man midfield.

Alex Guy produced a man-of-the-match performance at Croit Lowey last Saturday as he helped Rushen United overcame a spirited St Mary’s side 5-3 to keep their faint title hopes alive.

His display in a defensive midfield role provided key protection to his backline and earned the Spaniard his Team of the Week debut.

Completing the midfield quartet are two Peel players who shone in the aforementioned 7-0 over Braddan in the west of the afternoon, namely Lee Gale and Daniel Bell.

December Player of the Month Gale continued his excellent run of form by scoring a brace at Douglas Road on his way to earning a remarkable seventh TotW of the season already - after only 14 games.

Bell is also enjoying a fine campaign for Steve Falcolner’s title hopefuls and s typically dynamic display for Peel against the Swans earned him his third Team of the Week appearance of 2017-18.

Guy was not the only Rushen player to stand out during the Spaniards’ high-scoring victory at home to St Mary’s, with two of the southerners’ defenders also making the hypothetical XI.

Alex Maitland and Aaron Hawley are the players in question and the defensive duo both impressed at the back against the Saints, therefore both achieving their fourth Team of the Week appearances.

Completing the three-man defence is another player who has been no stranger to Team of the Week over the years, Sean Quaye. The St George’s centre-back was in impressive form as he helped the Grand Slam winners overcome a Ramsey side desperately battling against relegation, even managing to get on the scoresheet in the process.

Donning the goalkeeper gloves in the latest XI is Corinthians’ No.1 Adam Killey who kept Colby at bay during their clash at Ballafletcher and claimed a clean sheet to earn his second Team of the Appearance of the season.

Claiming the latest refereeing honours is James Turpin for the second time this season after he impressed during Geordies’ 8-2 win at home to Ramsey at Glencrutchery Road.
