Castletown’s impressive victory over DHSOB in the Canada Life Premier League on Saturday has been rewarded with three players being named in Team of the Week.
The southerners’ 5-2 win at home to Old Boys has given the Mets real hope of staving off relegation from the top flight, leaving them six points clear of bottom side Laxey.
The star of the show against DHSOB was Joel Callow who produced a man-of-the-match performance in the heart of their defence and he is duly selected in a back three alongside Alex Maitland and Darryl Haslett in the latest hypothetical XI.
Maitland was Rushen United’s star turn as the Spaniards got back to winning ways with a 3-0 success at home to Douglas Royal, while Haslett delivered a good performance for Corinthians as they saw off his former side Laxey 7-2 at Ballafletcher.
Also starring in that game was his Whites team-mate Dan Simpson who scored a fine goal and set up two others to earn an impressive eighth TotW call-up of the season.
He is joined in a four-man midfield by Douglas Athletic’s Conor Dempsey, Castletown’s Jack Camarda and St George’s youngster Connor Hislop.
Dempsey’s double helped the Pinks get the better of St John’s 3-0 at Mullen-e-Cloie, a result which ensured their best points tally in the Premier League to date.
Hislop scored and enjoyed a fine game in the St George’s midfield as they got the better of Marown 8-2 in Crosby, while Camarda earns his third Team of the Week appearance of the campaign after impressing against Old Boys.
Another of Town’s leading players in that match at The Stadium was Alex Crawley who helped himself to a brace against the Blackberry Lane side and therefore earns his first TotW call-up of the season.
He is joined in a menacing front three by St George’s marksman Ciaran McNulty and his Corinthians counterpart Sean Doyle after both netted hat-tricks during their sides respective wins on Saturday.
Donning the goalkeeping gloves this week is a striker turned shot-stopper in the shape of Mark Wolfenden who kept a cleansheet for Douglas Athletic during their aforementioned 3-0 win at St John’s.
Another of the island’s leading strikers who has changed his position recently is Andy Glover who has already received plenty of plaudits during his first season as a referee.
As such, he has dul been y named as the leading official in the latest Team of the Week.
