Rushen United clinched a last-gasp victory over Laxey on Saturday afternoon to end the Miners perfect start to the Canada Life Premier League season.

In a topsy-turvy match at Glen Road, the Spaniards found themselves 2-0 up and cruising early on, only for Laxey to turn the game on its head to lead 3-2 heading into the latter stages.

But Matty Lamb equalised for Rushen and, just when it looked like the contest would end all square, up popped Mike Williams in injury-time to score a late, late winner for the visitors.

Defending champions St Mary’s were in rampant form at the Bowl as they brushed aside Douglas Royal 9-1, with Jack McVey and Matty Kent-Lloyd leading the way for the Saints with a hat-trick and brace respectively.

Douglas Athletic moved up to sixth after getting the better of Marown by four goals to two and Springfield Road thanks to goals from Ste Cowan, Mikey Callister, Darren Shields and Daniel Robson.

That score was replicated on the adjacent pitch where visitors DHSOB claimed their first win of the season thanks to a 4-2 over Pulrose United.

The hosts took the lead in the very first minute through Ste Priestnal’s lob, but Ryan Gartland levelled matters before half-time with a fierce volley before a Mike Booth double sealed the points for Old Boys despite Nigel Moody scoring a late consolation for the Reds.

Corinthians proved too strong for newly-promoted Ramsey at Ballafletcher as strikes from Sean Doyle and Luke Murray ensured the Whites claimed a 2-0 victory, their second win of the new campaign.

In JCK Division Two, there was later drama at the Station Fields where Cark Hickey scored a last-minute winner for Colby against Foxdale, the latter’s first taste of defeat this season.

League leaders St John’s has kicked off the weekend with a 5-2 victory over 10-man Michael United under the Mullen-e-Cloie floodlights on Friday evening.

John Hagerdorn and Ciaran McNulty netted for the Aces, but a Richard Winn hat-trick plus strikes from Andrew Chadwick and Alex Holden sealed the victory for the Saints.

They remain three points clear of Union Mills who recorded a high-scoring 7-3 victory over Gymns at Garey Mooar. Luke Booth and Ryan Kelly both netted braces for the Millers and were joined on the scoresheet by Matty Cain, Chris Kelly and Ben Evans.

RYCOB moved into the top four thanks to a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Onchan at the Nivison Stadium thanks to goals from from Jed Fisher and Jason Craine, while the Os’ consolation came via Dale Walker.

James Callister’s hat-trick inspired Ayre United to a 9-1 thrashing of Malew at Clagh Vane, with the Tangerines’ goals also coming from Aidan Cummins 2, Anthony Bayle, Elliot Cureton, Zack Skuszka and Johnny Shields.

Douglas and District were also big winners in the second division on Saturday as they cruised past Governor’s Athletic 6-0 at Bemahague courtesy of goals from George Reff-Butler, Alfie Souter, Lewis Qualtrough, Brian Tung, Daniel Kinley and Stephen Mulhern.
