The 18th Regency Travel Floodlit Cup saw Douglas Royal defeat Corinthians 6-5 on penalties after extra-time.
It was the classic case of a player coming back to haunt their former club as Royal goalkeeper Rose Ozga saved three penalties and then scored the decisive spot-kick as the shoot-out went to sudden death.
Corinthians looked in control for much of the first half after captain Jade Burden gave her side a one-goal lead.
Burden was on target five minutes after the restart, doubling her side’s lead.
However, Royal pressed forward and Rebecca Cole started the comeback with a strike on 54 minutes before the winger was on target again 15 minutes later to make it 2-2.
Neither side could find a way through in the remaining regulation and extra-time and the match had to be decided by penalties and sudden death. It was Royal who held their nerve when it mattered to clinch their seventh Floodlit Cup title.
A full match report will appear in this week’s Manx Independent.
