Eleanor Gawne will compete in her eighth NatWest Island Games this summer after being selected in the women’s football team.

Isle of Man women’s manager Michael Quilliam has named an 18-player squad that will travel to the forthcoming Games in Gotland at the end of June.

Quilly has opted for a squad that is reflective of his time as manager, including a number of experienced faces as well as giving youth a chance.

With several players unavailable due to other commitments or the prohibitive costs involved travelling to the Baltic Sea island, the squad is also only 18 in size in an attempt to give players game time and experience at representative level.

Those making their Island Games debuts in Sweden in just under three months’ time are Chloe Teare, Emily Jones, Olivia Toombes, Casey Halsall, Holly Sumner, Alex Honour, Kira Buchan and Becky Corkish.

Quilly will also be looking to build on the foundations from last year’s Spring Cup and Quadrangular Tournament successes.

After missing out on the podium places in Jersey two years ago, the Manx will be looking to be amongst the medals this time round, replicating the island’s successes in Aland 2009 (bronze) and Isle of Wight (2011).

The women’s representative side will also be looking to play a couple of friendlies off-island as part of their preparations during the first weekend in May.

The 18-player squad is as follows: Kayleigh Greggor, Olivia Toombs, Kym Hicklin, Shannon Groves, Casey Halsall, Anna Dillon, Sarah O’Reilly, Holly Sumner, Alex Honour, Eleanor Gawne, Sarah Wignall, Stephanie Wear, Melissa Bell, Jade Burden, Kira Buchan, Becky Corkish, Chloe Teare, Emily Jones.
