The island women’s golf squad enjoyed an excellent weekend with training from England pro Lora Fairclough then a match at the stunning Southport and Ainsdale Golf Club.

The weather was very kind on Saturday for training and Sunday’s match at the course was perfect after a cloudy start.

Hopefully this is just the first match of what will become a regular fixture on everyone’s calendar.

Former Ladies European Tour golfer Fairclough said she was proud to be asked to coach the squad and to be a member of S&A and have faultless support from the club to stage this match.

Captains Di Gillespie and Shirley Price said how proud they both were of the women and are looking forward to the return match next year. S&A took the trophy 4-1.

The next date for theIsle of Man women is the 2023 Island Games being held in Guernsey in July. Both the men’s and women’s teams will be announced on April 14 at a quiz night being held at Douglas Golf Club.
