There’s good news for Manx cyclist Matt Bostock who has signed for a top-ranked British professional team for the 2019 season.
The 21-year-old from Glen Vine has joined the Canyon Eisman team, supported by DHB cycling products and Leicestershire-based property builders Bloor Homes.
Bostock, who came through the ranks of British Cycling’s Olympic academy, has ridden for the 100% ME squad for the past three seasons, and has enjoyed a distinguished international career with Great Britain, ostensibly on the track.
In 2016 he won a gold medal in the UCI Track World Cup at Glasgow and took a bronze medal in the team pursuit at the UEC European Track Championships.
Last year he was a member of the gold medal-winning under-23 team at the same event and in April of this year he represented the Isle of Man at the Commonwealth Games in Australia’s Gold Coast when he was the only team member to ride both the track and road.
He was sixth in the men’s 15km scratch race at the velodrome, but was riding below his full potential with an injury.
In early September at the Tour of Britain, riding for Team Great Britain, he was the leader of the sprints competition on the first stage across South Wales to Newport.
His ride with the Canyon Eisman team was confirmed last week when he attended the first team camp/get-together.
Team owner and sports director, Tim Elverson, unveiled a 19-man squad. He has retained the services of eight members of the 2018 line-up, including Andy Tennant, Charlie Tanfield and Louis Rose-Davies, while adding 11 new faces as the team prepares for its third season.
In addition to Bostock are two Belgians, former national junior champion Jacob Vaughan, three riders from the now-defunct JLT Condor squad and Dan Pearson who rode alongside Manxman Mark Christian in the Aqua Blue Sport squad.
l There is no confirmation of a team for Christian yet, but better news for his sister Anna. See this week’s Manx Independent for the latest update.
