Darryl Hill won the inaugural Isle of Man Billiards and Snooker Association’s Castle Cabs Premier League title at the weekend.
The former professional sealed the honours with a 6-4 victory over John Kennish at the Cue Zone in Ballasalla on Sunday.
After 10 weeks of league play Hill and Kennish finished first and second, with Hill defeating fourth-placed Peter Kirkham and Kennish whitewashing third-placed Tom Miller 5-0 in their semi-finals held on the previous day.
The final, as always with this pairing, was a close and tense affair with Hill snatching the 10th frame when it looked odds on to be going to a deciding frame.
Congratulations to Hill who before the final had dominated the Premier League and finished the tournament with 40 frame wins and only 12 losses.
Commiserations to Kennish who had the consolation of producing the highest break of the final weekend - also the highest of the event - a superb 93 which banked him £25.
Hill claims the title, trophy and a total of £210, while Kennish will pick up the runner-up medal and £170.
From the semi-finalists, Miller takes home £105 and Kirkham £75, while fifth-placed Sean Corkish receives £35, Peter Crellin (sixth) gets £30 and Paul Smith (seventh) £5.
Thanks go to all the players that contested the first edition of the Premier League who all produced some great matches - in total there were 47 breaks over 30 in the 24 matches played which is good going on Cue Zone’s STAR table.
The association is already planning the 2022 edition which will also see every player have the chance to be a part of it.
Thanks must go to the competition’s excellent sponsor, Scott from Castle Cabs who also officiated some of the matches.
Additional thanks go to all the referees that helped and particularly to Dave Kelly whom IoMBSA couldn’t have run this event without.
Finally a big thanks goes to all at the Cue Zone for looking after players and allowing the event to be played for 11 weeks on the table and for providing the live-streaming. All the matches can be watched back on both the association’s and Cue Zone’s Facebook page.
