The Manx flag rose high on the Rock of Gibraltar on Tuesday evening as the island’s cycling team claimed three golds and a bronze in the Island Games’ time trial event.

Becky Storrie won the women’s event by a mere 1.15 seconds from Jersey’s Florence Cox after a very challenging 20km course that ended with a grueling 4km climb to the Rock’s top cable car station.

Ellen Barker narrowly missed out on a second bronze medal of the week in fourth, while Emily Looker was 14th, Kate Priest 16th and town crit gold medalist Tara Ferguson 18th.

This secured the Manx squad a second team gold of the week heading into Thursday afternoon’s road race where they will be looking to complete the clean sweep.

The island’s men’s team also bagged themselves another couple of medals to add to the team bronze they won in Sunday’s crit.

Teenager Adam Scarffe made light of one of the Island Games toughest ever time trial courses as he finished in the men’s bronze medal place after completing the course just shy of half a minute slower than gold medallist Mihkel Raim (Saaremaa).

Nathan Draper was next Manxie in sixth, followed by Will Corkill in 10th, Thomas Bostock in 18th and Matt Looker in 28th. This was enough to land the men team gold and cement the island’s place at the top of the sport’s medal table.
