The Isle of Man’s swimming squad were in fine form again at the Lathbury Sports Complex on Wednesday evening as they plundered another nine Island Games medals.

One gold, six silvers and two bronze take the Lee Holland’s squad’s day three tally, to take their ongoing total to an impressive 19 medals ahead of Thursday’s final sessions of the competition.

Alex Bregazzi picked up his fourth gold of the Games when he lead home a Manx one-two in the opening race of the night - the 100m individual medley.

The 21-year-old Loughborough University student stopped the clock at 56.86s just ahead of team-mate Ben Kebbell to give the Manx a great start to the penultimate night of action at the open-top pool.

Laura Kinley continued her rivalry with the Western Isles’ Kara Hanlon in the women’s 100m breaststroke.

Kinley again had to settle for silver as the Scotswoman broke the Games’ record on her way to victory in a time of 1 min 7.28 sec.

Kinley’s long-time team-mate Steph Brew finished seventh.

The Isle of Man filled two of three podium places in the 100m freestyle, Joel Watterson clinching silver and Bregazzi adding to his ever-growing medal haul with a bronze. Both swimmers went under the existing Manx record for the distance, Watterson setting the new standard of 50.25s.

There was even less between Kinley and Olivia Marshall as they finished in tandem, and in the medals, in the women’s 50m freestyle.

Kinley claimed silver in 26.40 and Marshall third with only one hundredth of second between them.

Watterson secured his second individual silver of the evening as he swam a new personal best time of 24.87s in the 50m butterfly.

Fellow Manxie Euan MacMurchie finished fifth just outside the medals.

To round off the evening, the men’s 4x100 medley relay team swan to silver after a ding-dong battle with Jersey and Guernsey.

Ultimately Island Games record holders Jersey wrestled back the title from the Manx who won the event two years ago in Gotland.

Bregazzi and Watterson, who were part of the team that triumphed in 2017, were joined by Peter Allen and Kebbell this time as they finished runners-up. On the freestyle anchor leg, Watterson became the first Manxman to dip under the 50-second barrier.Emma Hodgson narrowly missed out on making it a round 10 medals for the island when she finished fourth in the 200m backstroke, a second behind Guernsey's Tatiana Tostevin.
